In February, pellets cost €429/ton (purchase quantity: 6 tons). In March 2022, buyers paid €369/ton.
At a regional level, there are differences in pellet prices. At a price of €376/ton (purchase quantity: 6 tons), wood pellets are cheapest in southern Germany. In central Germany, buyers pay €391/ton in March, while the price is at €403/ton in the north and east of the country. Bigger quantities, i.e. 26 tons, cost €346/ton in southern, €354/ton in central and €382/ton in northern and eastern Germany (all including VAT).
The German Pellets Institute (DEPI) criticizes that it is only possible to apply for financial help to reduce energy costs in a few federal states. “Private households can only apply in Berlin. In Bavaria and Hesse, small and medium-sized companies can now apply for it, while the states of Saarland and Baden-Württemberg have announced that companies may be able to apply at the end of the month,” Bentele said.
