Dangerous beetle development

Currently, all bark-beetle development stages are present at the same time, the Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW) reports. Over the upcoming weeks, Larvae and cocoons will complete their development into beetles that are capable of withstanding winter conditions.

A currently strong spar dust discharge on spruce trees indicates new beetle infestations (later in the fall not any more). "Quickly process these trees or at least mark the for calamity utilization in the upcoming months", forest protection experts recommend.
