The state of things in Germany’s forests

The National Forest Inventory shows that the forested area in Germany has increased slightly since 2012. However, the forest has suffered badly from droughts and pest infestation in the second half of the decade. As a result, the timber stock and thus also the carbon stock have decreased considerably since 2017.
