In the first ten months of 2024, Austria imported 4.98 million m³ of softwood sawlogs, recording a year-on-year decrease of 7% or 385,000 m³. You have to go back several years in the timeline to find a similar import volume. In the first ten months of 2017, 4.99 million m³ were imported and for the same period of 2015, Statistik Austria reported a volume of 4.46 million m³, as you can see in the Datacube.

Around 2.32 million m³ of softwood sawlogs, i.e. 4% more than in 2023, were imported from Germany. Purchases from the Czech Republic, on the other hand, decreased by almost 15% to 1.69 million m³. Thus, the two countries account for over 80% of total Austrian imports.

Imports from Italy were down by 31% and amounted to only 417,000 m³, whereas those from Slovenia grew by 34%, which brings the total to 388,000 m³.
