Speculations about takeover of West Fraser

Following extensive media coverage of a possible takeover of West Fraser by Kronospan and CVC Capital, the world’s biggest lumber producer issued a statement on Tuesday.

In the statement, which was published on Tuesday, West Fraser clarified that it has previously met with Kronospan, an existing shareholder, and CVC Capital Partners. However, the company has not received a proposal and there are no ongoing discussions regarding the terms of any transaction.

The statement followed reports by news agency Reuters, according to which private equity firm CVC Capital and Kronospan supposedly submitted a joint expression of interest to acquire the Canadian timber group.
