Last year, 24.4 million m³ of lumber were produced in Germany. Compared to the year before, production decreased by 4% or 943,000 m³. In 2020, the first year of the coronavirus pandemic, sawmills strongly increased cutting by 8% or 1.9 million m³, which brought the total to 25.2 million m³. In 2021, production output amounted to 25.3 million m³.

Lumber production output of the Austrian sawmill industry fell by 5% or 500,000 m³ to 10.3 million m³ in 2022. In the year before, Austria, too, reached a record production volume of 10.8 million m³. However, with the exception of 2021, Austrian lumber production has seen little change since 2018 (10.4 million m³).
