From January to August, Italy’s softwood lumber imports fell by 11% year on year to a total of 2.7 million m³. Bigger volumes were bought from only three of the main supplying countries, i.e. from Germany (396,000 m³; +7%), Finland (166,000 m³; +22%) and France (44,000 m³; +6%).
Imports from all other countries, most of all Austria (1.5 million m³; -8%) saw partly marked decreases. Purchases from the Czech Republic fell by 19% to 140,000 m³ in the first eight months, and a 33% decrease was recorded in imports from Slovakia, bringing the total to only 86,000 m³.
