Decrease in hardwood lumber production

Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 05.01.2024 - 09:13

In the third quarter, a total of 183,000 m³ of oak and beech lumber were produced in Germany, as Destatis reports. Compared to the second quarter, output decreased by 22% or 52,000 m³. It was also the smallest production volume ever recorded in a three-month period since the Holzkurier’s records began in 2019.

In the first nine months of 2023, the production output of beech and oak lumber amounted to 663,000 m³ and was thus down by 14% compared to the same period of last year (January–September 2022: 772,000 m³). Compared to the first three quarters of 2021 (801,000 m³), output decreased by 17% or 138,000 m³.
