West Fraser to close another sawmill

Canadian timber group West Fraser announced its plans to permanently close its sawmill in Fraser Lake, British Columbia, following an orderly wind-down.

According to West Fraser, difficulties in securing the raw material supply in the region are the main reason for the closure. The company puts the sawmill’s capacity at around 160 million bft (257,000 m³ 2-by-4 equivalent). Approximately 175 employees will be affected by the closure of the Fraser Lake sawmill.

Less than two weeks ago, the group announced the closure of a sawmill in Florida.
