According to China Customs Statistics, China imported 10.3 million m³ of softwood sawn timber from January to July, marking a 6% decrease compared to the same period last year. While the volume was higher than in the same period in 2022 (9.5 million m³), it was significantly lower than in 2019 (15.8 million m³), as shown by the Datacube (foreign trade section).
From January to July, Russia remained the dominant supplier, far ahead of others, with 6.8 million m³ (-3%). Russia accounted for 66% of China’s total softwood sawn timber imports. Imports from Canada fell by nearly 6% to 784,000 m³, from Finland by 24% to 428,000 m³, and from Germany by 32% to 345,000 m³. By the end of July, Belarus was the only country from which China increased its imports of softwood sawn timber, rising by 28% to 706,000 m³.
