Due to their geographical location, Baltimore and Port Canaveral in particular have established themselves as high-volume ports for break bulk lumber exports. There are also numerous container ports along the US East Coast, the port of New York being the biggest in terms of container transshipment. Port Canaveral in particular is “partly overwhelmed” by European exporters, as they tend to focus too much on this well-functioning port.
Along the US Gulf Coast, both types of ships call at the ports of New Orleans and Houston. Upcoming freight rate adjustments of US-$500 to US-$800 per 40-ft container could, however, lead to an increase in break bulk shipping in the fourth quarter.
