According to figures published by Statistik Austria, around 5.43 million m³ of Austrian softwood lumber and planed timber were exported between January and November 2024, i.e. 7% more than in the same period of 2023.
The important Italian market remained stable, recording a slight 1% increase, which brings the total export volume to 2.45 million m³. Deliveries to Germany, on the other hand, were up by around 50,000 m³ or 6% and amounted to 755,000 m³. Double-digit increases were recorded in exports to Japan (168,000 m³; +23%) and the Czech Republic (157,000 m³; +33%). Austrian deliveries to the latter have reached a record level, as you can see in the Datacube.
An interesting development can also be observed in Saudi Arabia. Shipments there totaled 70,000 m³ in the first eleven months of 2024 and thus nearly increased five-fold compared to 2023.
Meanwhile, there has been a clear downward trend in shipments to the US. As a result of the 37% decrease to 80,000 m³, the US just barely remained in the Top 10 foreign markets for Austrian softwood lumber
