Five months after start of construction, Alnatura has put in operation the world's largest high-bay warehouse in Lorsch in the German state of Hesse. With this unusual construction, the German producer of organically grown food is setting new standards in the logistics industry: The building is made of PEFC-certified spruce and larch from Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, all in all about 5000 m³ of wood. On an area of 9000 m², 32,000 pallet spaces are available which significantly expands the 17,000 pallet spaces of the existing distribution center.
Together with Swiss general contractor, Swisslog, Buchs/CH, Alnatura contracted Kaufmann Building Systems, Reuthe/AT, to implement the construction project of the wooden high-bay warehouse for € 15 million. A total of 160 staff are employed in Alnatura’s distribution center.
