The Australian Forest and Wood Products Australia has put forward a motion to amend the building code, as the Architecture & Design magazine reports in its online edition. The goal is to allow wood as a construction material for building heights of up to 25m. So far, the use of wood in high-rise buildings is not regulated which makes construction projects expensive and complex. At the same time, cross-laminated timber will be included in the new building code.

The application shall be submitted by February 1, 2015. The wood-friendly regulation would become effective in Australia as of 2016 at the earliest.
