In the new construction segment, timber construction has a nationwide share of 22%. When it comes to non-residential buildings, it has risen to 23.4%. This is according to information published in the Situation Report Carpentry/Timber Construction 2024 of the German timber construction association.

The number of businesses in the German carpentry and timber construction trades fell by 14 year on year to 12,143 businesses in 2023. As for the number of employees, a decrease of 0.6% to 74,239 was recorded.

One of the drivers of timber construction is the increase in modernization and renovation measures. According to the situation report, sentiment among timber construction companies is satisfactory. The order backlog was 18 weeks at the beginning of this year.
