Lower sawn timber production

Last year, Finland’s sawmill industry produced 11.3 million m³ of sawn timber. Compared to 2018, the production volume decreased by 4%.

The production of plywood fell by 11% to 1.1 million m³.

In 2019, an overall 11.6 million tons of pulp were produced. Compared to 2018, the volume decreased by 1%. The quantity of mechanically produced pulp fell by 7% to 3.3 million tons, whereas chemical production saw an increase of 2% to 8.3 million tons.

The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) also reports that the paper and cardboard production amounted to 9.5 million tons in 2019. Paper production was at 5.8 million tons and thus 14% lower than the year before. 3.7 million tons of cardboard were produced, i.e. 3% less than in 2018.
