On 35 hectares around the Engelmannsteich in Tirschenreuth in the Upper Palatinate, Ziegler Group will build a production site for modern prefabricated timber houses in the coming years – including a production and administrative area as well as a model home park.
“For our city and the region, this is the biggest investment in recent years,” says Mayor Franz Stahl. The Ziegler Group, which has its headquarters in Plößberg near Tirschenreuth, is going to invest € 220 million in the project. In the long term, the new production site is going to employ up to 1200 people.
According to a joint press release by the Ziegler Group and the municipality, the construction works are to start in 2022.
With a current turnover of € 550 million, the Ziegler Group hopes to break the billion mark after this step, informs the internet platform onetz.de. According to the city’s ideas, the land-use planning should be completed by the end of 2022, and the ground-breaking ceremony could follow immediately afterwards. Andreas Sandner, authorized representative of the Ziegler Group, expects that the entire production site will be completed four years later. According to onetz.de, sites in Thuringia and Franconia, where house building has already been a topic, are to remain but Tirschenreuth is going to be the center of competence.
Stefan Ziegler developed his vision of building timber houses when the company was handed over twelve years ago, reports the authorized representative, according to onetz.de. The various stages of expansion of the growth-oriented company include, for example, the logistics center in Wiesau in 2011 and, in 2018 and 2019, financial participations in wood processing companies in Franconia and a production site for cross-laminated and glued-laminated timber in Thuringia. Now that the “House of the Future” project has been completed, the decision has been made to build a new central production site, reports the internet platform.
