After what was described as a successful market entry in 2020 by the company itself, Austrian Pfeifer Group is going to expand its CLT production in Schlitz in Hesse. With the second expansion stage, capacity is to double to 100,000 m³ a year. The necessary construction works started already before the turn of the year.

In order to reach the target of 100,000 m³ a year, Pfeifer is currently installing another finger-jointing machine and additional joining capacity. At the same time, processes are being optimized and additional specialized staff for production and technical back office is being recruited. The plan is to expand the existing production to a three-shift operation in order to always be able to quickly process the growing order volume.

So far, Pfeifer has spent € 30 million on the CLT production in Schlitz. Another € 6 million will be invested in the second expansion stage. Bernd Gusinde, Technical Sales Manager at Pfeifer CLT, is convinced that the investment will pay off thanks to the growing timber construction sector. Once the second expansion stage is completed in spring 2021, the company’s medium-term strategy includes another expansion of the timber construction capacities. “We follow the market and its trends very closely. In addition to specializing in the DACH region and Italy, we would like to focus on even more international markets in the future. The approval for France is currently in progress, and we would also like to gain a foothold in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and interesting overseas markets.”
