When it comes to glulam, buyers now see the rise to more than €1000/m³ for the month of September, which was immediately taken back again, as price cut for the entire sector.
Significantly reduced order backlogs
The order backlogs of glulam producers have fallen from a few weeks to just a few days. Buyers have already noticed this higher availability. For the month of July, Holzkurier identified a price range of around €840 to €920/m³ in Germany and Italy, which corresponds to an increase of approximately €70/m³ compared to June.
According to many producers, the current level could be valid for several months. This statement might be a signal to the timber construction sector and reflect the willingness to bring some predictability back to the market. Buyers will probably have to wait until September and see whether this will become reality.
Strong autumn expected
Sawmills and timber companies have been cutting at full capacity for the fourth consecutive year. As a result, companies now carry out the necessary maintenance work. Together with the customers, producers will probably also shift down a gear.
The month of August is the traditional holiday season, especially in Italy, and the time will be spent filling the warehouses since it is generally expected that demand will be strong again in September.
