In 2024, Italy imported 630,000 m³ of glulam and CLT, recording a 4% increase compared to 2023. 537,000 m³, or 85% of total imports, were purchased from Austria. Year on year, Austria’s share in Italian imports grew by 9%, and the import volume hit a new record level.
Italy also increased its glulam and CLT imports from Germany, by 13% to 27,000 m³. At 6,000 m³ (+131%), purchases from China more than doubled compared to 2023. More laminated timber was also imported from Estonia last year (4,000 m³; +58%).
Meanwhile, imports of glue- and cross-laminated timber from Latvia (15,000 m³; -46%) and Slovakia (6,000 m³; -52%) halved. Decreases were also recorded in deliveries coming from Poland (8,000 m³; -38%), Romania (8,000 m³; -6%), Finland (6,000 m³; -26%) and Slovenia (5,000 m³; -10%).
