From January to October 2019, Germany’s softwood log exports nearly doubled compared to the same period of 2018 (97%), reaching a total of 5.89 million m³. Within only one year, China became the main market for German softwood logs and already receives 42% of overall exports (2.49 million m³). In the first ten months of 2018 China imported 162,000 m³. According to Customs Statistics China, an overall 36.2 million m³ were imported in the same period of 2019.
With the exception of Austria (1.29 million m³; -26%), Germany saw its softwood log exports grow in almost all other countries, such as Belgium (808,000 m³; +141%), Sweden (164,000 m³; +503%) and Denmark (161,000 m³; +298%). This is according to data collected by Destatis.
