According to Destatis, Germany’s softwood log exports totaled 1.54 million m³ in the first quarter. Compared to the same period of 2023, this corresponds to a 33% decrease. A downward trend can be observed on all foreign markets, with the exception of two countries. Softwood log exports to Belgium grew by 34% and amounted to nearly 179,000 m³, and those to Sweden increased by 875% to 25,600 m³.
All other Top 10 export markets, such as Austria (576,000 m³; -4%), China (370,000 m³; -53%) and the Czech Republic (142,000 m³; -22%), received smaller volumes.
In March alone, Germany exported 536,000 m³. In the same month of last year, 805,000 m³ of softwood logs had been exported.
