Price indices with increases in October

In October, the Austrian price indices of both log wood and lumber saw month-on-month increases. Contrary to lumber, however, the log price index decreased slightly since the start of this year.

The Austrian Timber Industry Association reports a log price index of 150.44% (base: January 2001 = 100%) for the month of October. Compared to September (143.75%), the index value fell by 6.69 percentage points. Since the start of this year, though, the log price index has decreased by 1.57 points. In October 2023, an index value of 137.05% was reported.

The lumber price index, too, rose slightly month on month, by 1.77 percentage points to 157.45% in October. Year on year (October 2023: 140.18%), an increase of 17.27 points is reported. Since January (151.19%), the index value has been up by 6.26 points.
