Log and lumber price indices with similar increases

In December 2024, the Austrian price indices for log wood and lumber once again saw a slight month-on-month increase. Year on year, they rose sharply.

The Austrian Timber Industry Association reports a log price index of 154.48% for the month of December 2024 (base: January 2001 = 100%). Compared to November, the index value increased by 0.71 percentage points. Compared to December 2023 (145,67%), it was up by 8.81 points.

An even bigger increase was recorded in the lumber price index. In December 2024, it was at 160.79% and thus 1.06 points higher than in the previous month and up by 16.9 percentage points compared to December 2023 (143.89%).
