China imported 19.86 million m³ of softwood sawn timber from January to September. According to China Customs Statistics, the overall volume fell by 8% or 1.76 million m³ year on year.
Decreases were recorded in imports from the Top 3 supplying countries Russia, Canada and Finland. China bought 11.86 million m³ of softwood sawn timber from Russia which is 11% less than in 2019. Shipments from Canada fell by 35% to 2.34 million m³, while those from Finland decreased by 20% to 805,000 m³.
Imports from Sweden (784,000 m³; +47%), Ukraine (744,000 m³; +24%) or Germany (731,000 m³; +44%) saw double-digit increases. The development of shipments from Belarus was particularly remarkable: They rose by 143% to 460,000 m³ in the first nine months.
