Italy is stocking up on softwood lumber

According to Eurostat, imports from Austria saw an above-average increase of 27%, from 146,000 m³ in January 2021 to 185,000 m³ at the beginning of this year. Austrian deliveries now account for 55% of overall Italian softwood lumber imports.

Even bigger increases were recorded in imports from Germany (47,000 m³; +35%), the Czech Republic (18,000 m³; +47%) and Slovakia (16,200 m³; +38%).

A negative development in shipments from Ukraine (14,000 m³; -5%) and Russia (5,500 m³; -11%) could already be observed in January.
