The biggest import volume came from Russia which supplied 7 million m³ of softwood lumber to China in the first seven months (+7%; from 6.5 million m³ in 2022).
China also increased its imports from Canada, to be precise by 7% year on year, which brings the total to 830,000 m³.
Scandinavian countries Finland (566,000 m³; +22%) and Sweden (558,000 m³; +84%) also recorded substantial increases in Chinese order quantities.
Softwood lumber imports from Belarus rose by 94% to 553,000 m³. After China had imported more softwood lumber from Belarus than from Germany for the first time in 2022, Belarus is ahead of Germany this year as well. 504,000 m³, i.e. 85% more than in the first seven months of last year, were imported from the latter.
