Japan reduced its lumber imports

In 2023, Canada was Japan’s number one supplier of softwood lumber with a volume of 758,000 m³. In 2022, the country shipped 932,000 m³ to Japan, i.e. 19% more than last year. Marked decreases were also recorded in imports from Finland (578,000 m³; -31%) and Sweden (567,000 m³; -33%). Russia is in fourth place of the main supplying countries and saw its trade volumes fall by 40% to 467,000 m³. Austria was the supplier with the biggest relative decrease (158,000 m³; -50%).
