In 2024, the German sawmill industry generated €5.95 billion in sales, as figures published by Destatis show. Year on year, this corresponds to a decrease of 6.5% or €417 million. Compared to the all-time peak of €8.73 billion reached in 2022, sales were lower by a third or €2.77 billion. However, when you look at the “normal years” of 2020 (€5.05 billion) and 2019 (€4.76 billion), you can see that sales were respectively 18% and 25% higher last year. The decrease in sales is due to curtailed cutting and lower lumber prices.
