Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 19.03.2025 - 09:25

At 4.03 million m³ (-1%), Italian imports of softwood lumber (incl. planed timber) remained nearly at the level recorded in 2023. As a look in the Datacube shows, imports decreased substantially compared to 2022 (4.6 million m³), but were similar to the volumes imported in 2021 (4.08 million m³) and above the 2020 level (3.6 million m³).

According to figures published by Eurostat, Austria remained Italy’s main supplier in 2024, too, and was able to keep the total trade volume constant (2.24 million m³; +0.5%). Decreases were recorded in softwood lumber imports from Germany (565,000 m³; -5%), Finland (243,000 m³; -3%) and the Czech Republic (201,000 m³; -10%). More softwood lumber was purchased from France (91,000 m³; +38%) and Switzerland (84,000 m³; +27%).
