Rubner Holzbau, Brixen/IT has won the tender for the construction of two glulam domes which are to form the roofs of coal storages of the Enel Center "Federico II" in Brindisi/IT. Each measuring more than 143 m in diameter, the domes are among the largest wooden domes in Europe. The customer is Enel, a global company operating in the energy sector.

The project, which involves the use of 1,548 m³ of glulam, 22,000 m² of cross-laminated timber and 192,000 kg of steel, includes the construction of two semi-spherical, geodesic structures each spanning across 143 m and covering a total area of 22,000 m². The preliminary work on site for the construction of the first dome began in December 2013. The two coal storages are to be completed in 2015, Enel announced.
