“Only” 93% of houses built in wood in 2023

Last year, 93% of new houses in the US were built using a wood frame construction, 7% had a concrete structure and less than half a percent had a steel frame construction. This is according to an analysis by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

In 2023, 930,000 houses with a timber frame construction were completed in the US, which corresponds to a 3% decrease compared to 2022. The market share of these houses fell to 93% in 2023, after having increased for three consecutive years, from 90% in 2019 to 94% in 2022. At the same time, the market share of houses with a concrete structure rose slightly from 6% in 2022 to 7% in 2023.
