Since then, Uniteam has invested heavily in additional technical personnel and new machine models. The experts made fundamental changes to the tried-and-tested series for the machining of CLT: the popular BM3 became the new CLT 400 model.
A CNC center to Sweden
At its Långshyttan site, Swedish Setra Group is currently launching a new CLT production plant with a capacity of 55,000 m³ a year for the Scandinavian market. When it comes to machining, the group has opted for a fully equipped Uniteam CLT 400. This machine has the tried-and-tested double-five-axis layout with independent y-axes. The 65 kW milling spindles are supplied by HSD, the world leader in electrospindles who is also part of the Biesse Group. The worktable has the proven mechanical alignment with rollers and chains and sturdy, swing-in stops. Deep drilling aggregates with a working length of 1850 mm complete the equipment.
A new concept in Carinthia
This machine configuration was also the basis for the “CLT advanced” concept for CNC machining developed by Handl Engineering for the Hasslacher Group. For the current expansion of the production site in Stall, Handl designed a highly efficient solution consisting of Uniteam CLT 400 machines, an optimized software and a novel automatic pin table. This configuration has been optimized for high-precision finishing after an upstream nesting machine. Here, the powerful HSD-5-axis heads with 65 kW double-spindles with their own tool changers are used as well.
This solution is part of an overall machine layout in which various existing and new CNC machines are controlled by one Compass software in order to facilitate an optimized control.
At the production site in Stall, smaller components will be processed with the new Biesse Rover B in the future, as machining with the 16.5 x 3.5 meter big CNC machines would be too inconvenient. The Biesse Rover B is controlled by the same Compass software (see article on page 62). A multifunctional vacuum table with a dimension of 6.4 by 2.2 meters and a powerful 5-axis spindle offer a high degree of flexibility. In Stall, the Hasslacher Group is thus ready to meet new challenges in the high-quality CLT timber construction sector.
