After eight very sluggish weeks, the glulam market has become more dynamic again at the end of June. “Demand is almost back at the level of curtailed production,” as one glulam manufacturer commented. Prices for visible quality glulam are ranging from around €590 to €650/m³ in June. Even though prices have fallen sharply and demand has seen a slight recovery, a further decrease is not unlikely.
Still over €300/m³
Prices of laminations for glulam are under pressure because of a more sluggish demand for glulam and the downward trend of raw wood for solid structural timber. Usually, there is a price difference of €40 to €50/m³ between laminations for glulam and raw wood for solid structural timber. Thus, in the third quarter, the former could get closer to the €300-mark again. In June, laminations cost €330 to €350/m³ according to the Holzkurier’s survey, i.e. €65/m³ less compared to the peak in April. To put it bluntly: “The main product has become cheap.”
