The facility’s annual production capacity will be approximately 160,000 m³, which will raise the company’s total Kerto LVL (laminated veneer lumber) capacity by 50%. Kerto LVL products are primarily manufactured for the European construction industry.

“Metsä Group’s goal is to efficiently process the log wood provided by Finnish forest owners into renewable products for the everyday needs of people all over the world. We are investing in world-class production facilities that will ensure our competitiveness in a changing business environment,” Ilkka Hämälä, President and CEO of Metsä Group, explains. Thanks to its excellent technical properties, Kerto LVL is suitable for a variety of construction uses, such as constructions which use elements and modules.

Thanks to its material efficiency, Kerto LVL is a competitive and sustainable solution for the increasing use of wood in construction.

The new Kerto LVL production facility will be built on the Äänekoski integrated mill site, thereby creating synergies in the areas of energy production, logistics and factory services. The integrated production sites can utilize 100% of the side streams produced in the production of Kerto LVL, producing the maximum possible added value from the valuable raw material.

With the new production facility, Metsä Group will create around 150 new jobs. Furthermore, around 400,000 m³ of Finnish log wood will be used for production.
