For the month of August, the Holzkurier identified a price level of €420 to €466/m³ on the key markets Germany and Italy. Last year, glulam cost €120/m³ more. The prices recorded in August 2021 even seem like they come from another world: At the time, they were around €400/m³ higher than they are now.
Laminations could drive glulam prices
Starting in October, glulam prices could see an inversion of trend – provided that forecasts about higher prices for laminations act as a trigger. “The big processing companies have hardly any raw material in their warehouses. They have to buy in order to be able to continue producing.” This is what several market participants said in conversations with the Holzkurier. Narrow, visible-quality laminations in particular are in short supply since they have become scarce in Scandinavia as well.
While glulam prices seem to have reached the bottom for good, the same still cannot be said about CLT. “We are simply lacking the projects to be able to charge adequate prices,” many lament. Many projects are said to be postponed due to insufficient financial means.
