Austrian deliveries of glulam and CLT to Italy at a record level

Article by Gerd Ebner (translated by Eva Guzely) | 10.07.2024 - 12:09

Austria profits the most from this upturn: Its sales in Italy increased by 14% to 185,000 m³. This is the highest volume ever delivered at the start of a year, according to an analysis of our Datacube data. From 2020 (60,000 m³) to this year, Austrian deliveries increased by a factor of 3, while total imports grew by a factor of 2.5. In 2020, “only” two thirds of the foreign laminated timber were imported from Austria. Now, Italy’s neighbor accounts for as many as 85% of total imports.

Trade with Germany, on the other hand, is very volatile. This year, import volumes decreased substantially compared to previous years, to be precise to around 8,500 m³ compared to the three-year average of 14,500 m³ (2021-2023).

Latvia is Italy’s number three supplier. Similar to Germany, the Baltic country also suffered a year-on-year decrease.

All data are collected and published by Eurostat. The long-term analysis is possible thanks to our Datacube where you can also see that Statistik Austria reports an export volume of 245,000 m³ of glulam and CLT for the period January to April 2024 (and thus a year-on-year increase of around 10%)
