A decade of top performance

Scheuch Ligno was established in 2015 to meet the special requirements of the woodworking and wood-processing industry. Overall, though, the manufacturer can draw on the 60 years of experience of the Scheuch Group. Ten years ago, Scheuch Ligno’s headquarters in Mehrnbach was built with €8 million in start-up capital. The site was expanded in 2021: €5 million were invested in a new production hall and modern machines. The company has achieved impressive growth. In 2015, an operating profit of €16.5 million was recorded. At peak times, it exceeded €50 million. This year, Scheuch Ligno’s operating profit will amount to €40 million.

Industry-wide presence

“We are simply everywhere,” Alois Burgstaller, Managing Director of Scheuch Ligno, Mehrnbach, says. The Holzkurier regularly compiles a ranking of the Austrian and German softwood sawmills. “All of the Top 10 sawmills listed there are our customers,” Burgstaller proudly emphasized.

The situation is similar in the cross-laminated timber sector. Every year, the Holzkurier publishes a map of the CLT manufacturers in the DACH region and the Czech Republic. The 15 companies, which produce the biggest volumes of cross-laminated timber, all rely on Scheuch Ligno’s extraction technology. “Our systems and solutions are not only in use at large industrial companies, though. Craft businesses are also among our customers. We deliver customized extraction solutions to all of them,” the managing director says. Scheuch Ligno has had long partnerships – some of them have lasted for decades – with numerous companies. “We understand the special circumstances and problems of our customers. That’s why we can always offer the optimal solution for everyone,” Burgstaller explains.

Growing with the timber industry

“Since 2015, we have grown strongly in line with the timber industry. Due to the general economic situation, our company, too, has recently experienced a decline. We are prepared for our business stabilizing at a slightly lower level over the next two or three years. The direction, however, is right, and we are very well positioned for the future,” Burgstaller says, looking to the future with optimism.

Customized solutions

Scheuch Ligno customers are used to reliability. The company itself highlights that its extraction systems stand for clean and safe production with the highest availability, energy efficiency and quality. One of Scheuch Ligno’s major assets is its extremely flexible range of products, most of which are manufactured in Austria. This includes filters and pipes range, consisting of pipe, molded and duct parts. A coil cutting system with integrated duct and pipe manufacture completes the production. The planning, programming and production of all control cabinets and PLC controls also takes place in-house. All systems are tailored to the respective requirements, making them the optimal solution for the customer and project in question.

“Customers can rely on our decades of experience in extraction technology, and they get everything from a single source in the usual high quality. We always guarantee the most economically viable solution,” Burgstaller emphasizes. Thomas Lacher, Scheuch Ligno’s Head of Sales, adds: “We can build on our experience, but we repeatedly set standards in product development. In mass timber processing, for example, we have established negative pressure control for group extraction systems with fans arranged on the raw gas side. This way, the extraction performance remains the same and always in the optimal range over the entire filter service life. Each extraction group can be designed individually depending on the volume flow and pressure increase. Thus, energy is used as efficiently as possible. Thanks to such product developments and many others, we have earned a good reputation in the industry.”

Scheuch Ligno customers also like to use the Retro Fit service, as Lacher explains. “By upgrading existing systems to the state of the art, the system’s service life is extended and its performance improves. Also, machine availability and production and/or energy efficiency are increased.”

Plans for the future

“Since our solutions are well-established on the market, we have seen strong growth in the DACH region over the past ten years. We have also expanded into surface treatment and processing as well as into other areas such as the metal and paper industries. In the next few years, we want to further secure the market in the DACH region, while growing at an international level, too, especially in North America and Europe,” Burgstaller tells us.
