Growing laminated timber exports

Article by Günther Jauk (translated by Eva Guzely) | 10.12.2024 - 11:29

In the first three quarters, Austrian exports of glue- and cross-laminated timber grew by 5% year on year, totaling 1.38 million m³. Despite this upward trend, exports still remained below the levels recorded in previous years. The first nine months of 2017 were the last time in which exports missed the 1.4-million-m³-mark, as a look in the Datacube shows.

With a trade volume of 530,000 m³ (+9%), Italy was once again the most important foreign market, followed by Germany (274,000 m³; -2%), Switzerland (109,000 m³; +10%) and France (98,000 m³; -14%).

The additional volumes shipped to the Japanese market are worth mentioning, too. Following a recent slump, Austrian glulam and CLT exports to this overseas market increased by 35% to 76,000 m³.

Data collected and published by Statistik Austria were used for this analysis.
