Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 28.04.2023 - 09:40

In January, Finnish softwood lumber exports still exceeded those of last year, with 715,000 m³ in 2023 compared to 603,000 m³ in 2022. In February, however, they plummeted by 43% year on year to around 430,000 m³. In the first two months, Finnish exports totaled 1.14 million m³ and thus decreased by 16% compared to the same period of 2022.

In January and February, Finland shipped 142,500 m³ of softwood lumber, i.e. 27% less, to Egypt. Double-digit decreases were also recorded in exports to Germany (75,000 m³, -19%), Japan (62,500 m³; -52%) or France (61,500 m³; -27%). Softwood lumber shipments to Estonia (92,000 m³; +12%) and Algeria (61,600 m³; +6%), on the other hand, saw a positive development.
