The world's most powerful biomass power plant with a capacity of 140 MW went online in Vaasa/FI on March 11. In the past, operating company Vaskiluodon Voima used Russian coal as a fuel for the power plant. In less than a year, Metso, Helsinki/FI, modified the plant and installed co-firing technology which operates on wood chips from the forest. According to the operators, this will cut the amount of coal needed in half.
